The Design Process

You’ll be surprised at what we can create for your home.

Our team will work with you to create cabinetry that suits your lifestyle and budget. Once an appointment has been made, our experienced designer, Emma Slatter, will guide you through your options and work with you to create a professional 3D computer design for your new kitchen.

Our professional service doesn’t stop there, once the manufacturing process is underway our project manager, Kristy Francis, will keep you informed of your kitchen’s progress and liaise with or organise all building trades necessary to complete you new kitchen.

Understanding the design, manufacture and installation process with Latham’s Kitchens & Interiors

Initial Client Design Meeting
Usually held onsite at your home or view plans in our showroom for a new build.
This meeting is with our designer, Emma, and is where the general concept of your kitchen is discussed, measurements taken and requests or wishes noted.

Presentation Meeting (usually in our showroom)
This 2nd meeting is the most exciting as it’s here that you can see your new kitchen concepts in 3D colour. Your design is presented and discussed in detail and usually by the end of the meeting we have a final design which is used for your quotation.

Colour Selections
Finalising colour and materials for your project to make sure it works with the rest of your home and the look you are aiming to achieve.

Selecting Lathams Kitchens & Interiors
After you receive our quotation please feel free to contact us to discuss the information and we will answer any questions.

Upon acceptance of our quote we’ll do the following:

  • A contract will be completed and either forwarded to you for your acceptance and signature/s requesting an initial deposit payment (usually 10%), or will be completed with you at the selection meeting.

  • Organise a selection meeting (usually in our showroom) to confirm all materials, colours and inclusions. Your selections, changes and / or additions are recorded during the meeting and a copy is provided to you for your records.

  • Organise an onsite check measure attended by our Project Manager to confirm all measurements and particulars needed to commence manufacture.

Manufacture and completion process of your new kitchen

Manufacture begins
After receiving all the relevant details about your new kitchen our project manager, Kristy Francis (whom you will have met at your check measure) starts the process of making your dream kitchen a reality.

Time frames vary but as a general rule our custom made kitchens can be installed in your home approximately 8 weeks from the onsite check measure subject to all information required having been provided.

Viewing your kitchen
Where possible your kitchen will be setup in our workshop for you to view prior to installation, time permitting. This may vary depending on when we receive painted panels/ ordered doors etc from our suppliers, and also your availability to visit our factory to view. Handles are normally selected at this time if not already chosen at the colour selection meeting.

Installation Day
Our team of qualified tradesman ( we do not use subcontractors) will arrive at your home at the pre-arranged time to begin the installation process. Depending on your job inclusions our project manager may have already organized the removal and/or disposal of your existing kitchen or contractors to complete electrical and / or plumbing work.

If the benchtop you have selected is laminated your kitchen should be all but complete and ready for use that day or as soon as your appliances are connected.

If your benchtop is to be stone or similar our project manager will have previously arranged for a check measure by the stone mason onsite. This can only be done after the kitchen cabinets are installed and is usually organized for the day after installation. If you can’t be there our project manager can attend on your behalf.

Benchtop / Splashback Installation
Stone benchtops can be installed approximately 7 – 10 working days from the onsite check measure. As one of the leading kitchen companies in Newcastle and the Hunter we enjoy extremely good relations with our suppliers. Delays are rare and avoided at all costs. We understand that being without a kitchen is difficult to say the least.

Once your benchtop is installed and depending on your job inclusions we will have our contractors return (usually the same day) to connect your new appliances, sinks, dishwashers etc. Life returns to normal and you have a brand new functioning kitchen.

If glass splashbacks are selected templates are taken once your stone benchtop is installed. Their turnaround is approximately 3 weeks from check measure. This does not however stop you using your new kitchen.

Job completion
After benchtops and splashbacks have been installed is when things like hinge adjustments or minor issues that you may have noticed are corrected. We do endeavor to do this at installation but once cabinets are full and doors are being opened and closed adjusting is sometimes needed. Please contact us if you have any issues with drawers or doors needing an adjustment.
